Apple Music Have Surpassed 60 Million Subscribers

Today’s major news on Apple is the departure of its design Guru Jony Ive who is leaving the company to start his own new firm after 27 years of service. As the company tries to digest their big loss, their software plows ahead. In an interview with French News Site Numerama, Eddy Cue who is a big Apple honcho revealed that the company has gained over 60 million Apple Music subscribers.

Apple has the tendency to announce its list of subscribers every time when they cross an additional 10 million mark. Last time, when the company declared about its subscribers, it was 50 million.

But now the company’s music service is well past the halfway market. It is getting closer to surpass Spotify which currently has 100 million subscribers.

Apple Music was launched in 2015 and since then it has gained 60 million subscribers globally. Eddy Cue has said:

“In the Apple ecosystem, Apple music is the number one streaming service.”

Back in 2018, the subscriber number was only 40 million. According to a report, Apple Music has more paid users than Spotify in the US. This was reported by GSM Arena late on Thursday.

Apple Music gained 10 million subscribers in the first six months when it was launched for the first time in 2015. The subscriber number went up to 20 million by the end of December in 2016. There has been a steady increase in the number of subscribers since the launch of the app.

Apple Music had over 50 million paid subscribers in January when Spotify has already reached the 75 billion mark. This was stated by iPhone make.

The Cupertino based company is going to revamp the way subscribers access Apple Music in its latest Mac OS Catalina update.

Following the price cut by other music streaming services such as Gaana in India and like JioSaavn, Apple Music is now offering a subscription for Rs 99 per month. The previous price was Rs 120 per month.

This new monthly plan by Apple Music has made it cheaper than Spotify which charges Rs 119 per month.

Adam Neumann, CEO Of WeWork Has Reportedly Cashed Out Of Over $700 Million Ahead Of Its IPO

Adam Neumann, the chief executive, and co-founder of the international real estate co-working start-up WeWork has cashed out over $700 million from his company just prior to its public offering.

The size and timing of the pay-outs, made through a mix of loans and stock sales secured by his equity in the company is unusual, considering the fact that founders usually wait until after a company holds its public offering to liquidate their holdings.

Despite sales of stock and loans, reported by The Wall Street Journal, Neumann remains to be the single largest shareholder in the company.

According to the reports of the journal:

“Neumann has already set-up a family office to invest the proceeds and begun to hire financial professionals to run it.”

He is also known to make significant investments in real estate in San Francisco and New York. This includes four homes in the New York metropolitan area and a $21 million, 13000 square-foot house in the Bay Area complete with a guitar-shaped room. It is reported that Neumann had spent around $80 million on real estate.

Other than that Neumann is also known to invest in commercial real estate. This includes properties in Calif, New York, and San Jose. At least four of his properties are leased to WeWork, to the tune of several million dollars in rent. As reported by the journal:

“Neumann will transfer those property holdings to a WeWork-controlled fund.”

He has also made investments in start-ups in recent years. He is reported to have an equity stake in seven companies including Intercure, EquityBee, Selina, Hometalk, Feature.fm and Pins.

Neumann is actually reaping great rewards from stock sales and loans. His rewards are the highest recorded by a private company executive. In recent years, Evan Spiegel sold $8 million in stock and borrowed $20 million from Snap before its 2017 public offering. Stewart Butterfield, chief executive of Slack Technologies sold $3.2 million of stock before Slack’s public offering in June.

WeWork has refused to comment anything on the matter.

Archinaut snags $73 million in NASA funding to 3D-print giant spacecraft parts in orbit

A project to 3D-print bulky components in space rather than bring them up there has collected $73.7 million contracts from NASA to explain the technique in space. Archinaut is a mission that is being developed for several years now and it can launch as soon as 2022.

However, the main problem is:

“If you want a spacecraft to have solar arrays 60 feet long, you need to bring 60 feet of structure for those arrays to attach to. They can’t just flap around like ribbons. But where do you stash a 60-ft pole or two 30-ft ones, or even 10 six ft? ones when you only have a few cubic feet of space to put them in? It gets real complicated real fast to take items with even a single large dimension into space.”

Archinaut’s solution is actually very simple. They suggested that they can simply take the material for the long component into space and print it out on the spot. That’s because there is no other compact way to keep the material than as a brick of solid matter.

Naturally, this extends to more simply pole and rods, sheets of large materials for things like light sails, complex interlocking structures on which other components can be mounted. There are many things too big to take into space in one piece. But which could be made of smaller ones if necessary?

Made in Space have already made contracts with NASA and has also explained 3D printing of parts abroad the International Space Station. It has also shown that it can print things in an artificial vacuum which happens to be more or less equivalent to a space environment.

Archinaut One, the demonstrator mission would launch aboard a Rocket Lab Electron launch vehicle no earlier than 2022. After achieving a stable orbit it will start extruding a pair of beams that will eventually extend out 32 feet. These beams will have solar arrays attached to them that will unfurl at the same rate as the rigid structures attached to the beams.
