Artificial Technology is new but it is a ground-breaking invention that can change our lives. A business leader said that it can be applied to generate real value.

AI has a long way to go. For it to become mainstream, tech giants and even start-ups need to realize that bottlenecks that are faced by a business. With the help of this technology, all these problems can be taken care of said Ericson Chan, CEO of China’s Ping An Technology.

He told CNBC’s Arjun Kharpal on Tuesday at the Rise Conference in Hong Kong:

“Look at China, for example, only 8% of the hospitals are triple-A grade.” “But that 8% of the hospitals are taking care of more than 50% of the patients of the whole nation.”

This results in uneven distribution of resources which in turn, ruins the patient’s experience at those hospitals, he said.

“You need to wait for more than three hours before you can see a doctor, and the consultations are no more than 7 or 8 minutes.” Chan said that the “doctors, meanwhile, “need to work for more than 12 hours a day.”

This is where AI can be of great use as it can ease the friction experienced by the health care providers and also by the patients.

Ping An Technology is basically a wholly owned subsidiary of a huge conglomerate in China, Ping An Group. The main aim of the company is to apply various technologies including AI in different areas such as finance, health care, and smart cities.

The company has designed AI systems that have the ability to predict the likelihood of a patient suffering from a chronic illness even before the symptoms are seen and that too with high accuracy. Not just that but it can even spot abnormalities in medical image cans that would normally take doctors a lot of time to do manually.

Chan said:

“We can take it down to life five minutes, so it’s a lot more efficient, a lot more accurate. Afterward, we can even have AI technologies do follow up with the patients.”
